Foreign citizens have more than 570 thousand KM of unpaid fines in all of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which were issued to them for traffic violations, it was confirmed for Klix.ba.

The exact amount as of March 4, 2024 is 570,541 KM and this is the official data we received from the IDDEEA database.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Canton of Sarajevo told Klix.ba that the collection of fines to foreign drivers is carried out in accordance with the Instruction on how to initiate misdemeanor proceedings.
It is thus described that the violator is offered to pay a fine at the nearest police station, for which the police officer issues a fine payment certificate, or by possibly initiating misdemeanor proceedings at the competent court.
However, the biggest problem is represented by violations that are registered through stationary radars and the fact that in the largest percentage of drivers who commit a violation, they manage to avoid paying.
During the year 2023, 19,940 violations committed by drivers of vehicles with foreign license plates, both in transit and vehicles that stay for a long period of time on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, have been processed through stationed radars in Sarajevo Canton.
As we unofficially learn, the biggest non-payers in BiH are BiH. diasporans who largely do not pay the fines they earn by committing traffic violations.

“All misdemeanors committed in the area of Sarajevo Canton are electronically recorded and deleted from the records only after the statute of limitations for the misdemeanor has expired, and police officers in the field in the area of all PUs can check whether a misdemeanor has been committed with the said vehicle, and take legal action anticipated measures against the driver who committed the offense,” added the Sarajevo MUP.

The Border Police of BiH also has access to the register of fines maintained by the Agency for Identification Documents, Records and Data Exchange of BiH (IDDEEA), but border officers do not have the ability to collect fines or misdemeanor orders.
