Former Commander of Army sentenced to Eight Years in Prison

The Appellate Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has sentenced the former commander of the Third Corps of the Army of RBiH, Sakib Mahmuljin, to eight years in prison.

It should be reminded that he was sentenced in the first instance to 10 years in prison because, according to the verdict, he did not prevent the crimes of members of the “El Mujahid” detachment against Serbs in the area of Vozuca and Zavidovici.

On January 22 last year, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina sentenced Mahmuljin to a single sentence of 10 years in prison for crimes against captured Serb civilians and soldiers in the Zavidovici and Vozuca areas in 1995.

The Appellate Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina annulled that first-instance verdict in November last year and ordered a new trial, which began with an appeal procedure in which the proposals of the Prosecutor’s Office and the Defense were presented.

The prosecution complained about Mahmuljin’s sentence for killing captured members of the Republika Srpska Army and inhumane treatment of prisoners, civilians and wounded in the first instance, while the defense appealed on all grounds, including significant violations of criminal procedure and erroneous and incomplete facts.
