The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) today confirms that former tennis player Jasmina Tinjić, from Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been suspended for a period of six years after admitting to 23 breaches of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP).
33-year-old Tinjić, who reached a career-high world singles ranking of 236 in September 2013, did not contest the ITIA charges relating to corrupt activity in 2017 and 2018 – which included contriving the outcome of matches, facilitating wagering, receiving money in return for not giving best efforts in matches, and failure to report corrupt approaches.
In 2022, Tinjić was found liable for match-fixing offences under criminal law in Sweden, the player’s country of residence. Subsequently, the Swedish Tennis Federation issued Tinjić with a four-and-a-half-year domestic suspension, which applies to all sport in the country.
The ITIA’s case was deferred until the conclusion of the criminal and domestic proceedings, and ruled on by independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer (AHO) Janie Soublière, who issued Tinjić with the six-year suspension and a $20,000 fine, of which $18,000 is suspended.
The suspension has been backdated to run concurrently with the period of ineligibility imposed by the Swedish Tennis Federation. As such, the suspension began on 18 May 2022, and will end at midnight on 17 May 2028.
During the period of ineligibility, Tinjić is prohibited from playing in, coaching at, or attending any tennis event authorised or sanctioned by the members of the ITIA (ATP, ITF, WTA, Tennis Australia, Fédération Française de Tennis, Wimbledon and USTA) or any national association, ITIA writes.
