A new, better life is the wish of all 400 migrants currently staying at Camp Miral in Velika Kladusa, in northwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The camp, which has a capacity of 700 people, is mostly made up of men from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, but also from other countries.
For everyone, Bosnia and Herzegovina is just a transit to move to other European countries. The camp accommodates men, singles without families. There are also a small number of unaccompanied minors.
A doctor from the Velika Kladusa Health Center, who is there for all kinds of health care for migrants, also comes to Camp Miral from Monday to Saturday.
Ahmet Ahmedi (22) came to Bosnia and Herzegovina two and a half years ago. As he said, wherever they come, they have problems and encounter obstacles to cross the border.
“I come from Afghanistan. I want to go to Germany or France. There is no life in Afghanistan, especially now. There is only war, the Taliban and ISIS. We don’t want politics, we want a new normal life. We want a family,” Ahmedi said.
This young man is alone on his way to Western Europe. His whole family is in Afghanistan. “We don’t want a war anymore. Everyone here is helping us and they are not our problem. We just want to move on,” Ahmedi said.
Yusuf Arheim from Morocco, is one of the unaccompanied minors housed in Camp Miral. He is 16 years old.
“I’m alone here, my family is in Morocco. I want to come to the UK. I don’t like the European Union and their rules. I’m waiting for summer so I can move on,” Yusuf said. This minor wants a new, better life. “I want a job, I want to travel the world. I finished two grades of high school in Morocco. I want to continue my education,” Yusuf said.
There are currently about 2,000 migrants in Krajina. The number changes from day to day, as there are many who come and go. In addition to about 600 located in the Lipa camp, which is under the control of the State Service for Foreigners, about 400 of them are in the Miral camp. The rest of the migrants are in other areas, both in the open and in abandoned buildings.
