The G7 group of countries has called for more humanitarian breaks in the besieged Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip.

“We are also deeply concerned about the devastating impact on Palestinian civilians in Gaza,” the G7 countries said in a joint statement after a virtual summit late on Wednesday.

They called for “urgent action” to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

“More effective measures must be taken to prevent additional displacement of people and protect civil infrastructure,” the statement said.

Criticizing the Palestinian resistance group Hamas for the October 7 attack, the G7 member states called for the release of all hostages.

“More efforts must also be made to enable uninterrupted and continuous humanitarian assistance for civilians, including food, water, medical care, fuel and shelter, as well as access to aid workers,” the statement said.

The virtual summit of G7 leaders was hosted by Japan, the outgoing chairman of the group of countries.

The G7 Group is a consultative forum of the seven most important industrial countries in the world.

It consists of the prime ministers of the United States of America, Canada, Japan, Germany, Italy, France and Great Britain.
