Germany allocated specialized equipment worth some 400,000 KM (225,560 U.S. dollars) to members of an anti-bomb squad of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH’s) Border Police (BiHBP) on Monday here, BiHBP said in a statement.

After signing of the protocol on handover of the donation, ambassador of Germany to BiH Margret Uebber emphasized that BiHBP and Germany’s Federal Police have been working closely together since 2000 to combat cross-border crime.

“In addition to 120 trainings, Germany has in recent years donated equipment worth over 9.5 million KM (5.3 million U.S. dollars) to BiH’s Border Police,” Uebber said on behalf of Germany’s Federal Ministry of the Interior, Construction and Community which donated the equipment.

Uebber explained that the equipment includes technology for detecting counterfeit documents, All-terrain vehicles (ATV), boats, endoscopes and detectors, and special equipment for anti-bomb squad worth nearly 2.0 million KM (1.1 million U.S. dollars).

Director of BiHBP Zoran Galic pointed out on the aid of Germany in establishment, development and equipping of the anti-bomb squad which consists of 12 members.

Galic said that the additional donation of two sets of sophisticated protective suits and other equipment aims in better operational strengthening of BiHBP, and enhancement of general security at the border, border zone and airports in BiH.

“Apart from the donation of equipment, the importance of specialist training contributes to its more effective use,” Galic concluded.

In November last year, Germany provided specialized equipment worth 458,000 euros (505,139 U.S. dollars) to BiHBP, mainly ATVs, patrol boats and so on, Xinhua news agency reports.
