Four simultaneous major strikes threaten to devastate all of Germany, and Bavarian Economy Minister Hubert Ivanger says the country is run by people “who don’t know a pig from a cow.”
The farmers’ protest, which swept Germany, is now supported by truck drivers, restaurant workers and railway workers.
Thousands of tractors appeared on German highways. German farmers have started a second wave of protests against fiscal austerity measures adopted by Olaf Scholz’s government.
Within hours, traffic was paralyzed in many parts of the country, and media reports began to resemble reports from the front more and more:
“Five and a half thousand tractors are moving from different directions towards Munich”, “Cottbus will soon be cut off from the outside world”, “The border with the Czech Republic is closed”…
The main demand of the farmers is the return of state incentives for diesel fuel for agriculture, which the government abolished in order to save the budget. Without subsidies, agricultural production in Germany becomes unprofitable and many farms risk simply going bankrupt.
Their main slogan is: “No peasants, no bread”!
At the same time, trucking companies are outraged by the recent increase in road tolls, small producers are suffering due to the increase in the price of energy and components, restaurateurs are losing customers and profits due to the increase in VAT since the New Year, reports Fakti, referring to German media.
Farmers also received support from Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Zeder, who demanded the resignation of Chancellor Scholz and new elections.
The German judiciary also believes that farmers have every right to block highways. He just ordered them to miss the ambulance, fire department and other services.
The unpopular Soltz government made concessions in December, partially softening the decision to end subsidies. But the farmers want back everything that was taken from them.
“Partial concessions for us only mean delayed death,” said the president of the Association of German Farmers, Joachim Rukvid.
Aleksandar Dobrint, president of the representative group of Christian Democrats in the Bundestag, believes that the German government has brought the country into chaos.
“We are living in a polarization that has not been seen in this country for decades. The government destroyed our economic growth, caused an energy crisis, but did not solve the migration crisis. It is a polarization that has not been seen in this country,” he said.
All this leads to fear in society, inflaming passions and protests,” concludes Dobrint, Srna news agency writes.
