On the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the suffering of 33 Croat civilians at the locality of Grabovica, between Jablanica and Mostar, wreaths were laid yesterday at the Memorial to the civil victims of the Homeland War of Grabovica, and the holy mass was prayed at the local cemetery.
The tragedy in Grabovica occurred in the night from 8th to 9th of September 1993, when the members of the Army of the RB&H killed 33 Croat civilians, among whom the youngest victim Mladenka Zadro was only four years old, and the oldest victim was Marko Maric, at the age of 87.
“How are we supposed to build future, when the ghosts of the past are still haunting us? Here, on every step of the land of Grabovica, blood smolders and demands that such crimes happen never to no one again. If we forget these victims of ours, if we forget the memories of suffering and if we do not pay tribute to their tribulation and torture, we shall not be surprised if such suffering occurs again. Not to us, but perhaps to our descendants”, said Dreznjak.
As a reminder, the International Tribunal in Haag declared the General Sefer Halilovic free of charges for the crimes against Croats in Grabovica and Uzdol.
Five members of the Army of RB&H have been sentenced for the crime in Grabovica until now, precisely for the killing of the families Zadro and Maric.
Of 22 victims in total, 16 of them have been found so far, mostly incomplete remains. It is still being searched for the remains of 17 victims of Grabovica.
After the setting of wreaths, the local pastor Don Ivan Zovko led the Cross Path from the Memorial to the local cemetery.
