On the day of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles and on the anniversary of the assassination in Sarajevo on June 28, the City of Sarajevo will again be part of the official international program of marking the century since the First World War.

On this occasion, the City of Sarajevo, in partnership with the Embassy of Hungary in BiH, will organize an important and valuable social and cultural event for the BiH capital on Friday, June 28, in the Town Hall, for which the well-known American writer Susan Sontag wrote:

“Sarajevo began and ended the 20th century: it started an assassination in Sarajevo, and ended with the assassination in Sarajevo …”

Sarajevo Mayor Abdulah Skaka and Ambassador of Hungary Posa Krisztian, will open the exhibition of photographs contained in the book “Hundred Years of the Great War from Sarajevo to Versailles” at 17:00 o’clock in the hall of the City Hall, which will be attended by Attila Szalay-Berzeviczy from Budapest, author of the project.

An hour later, at the Town Hall, a panel discussion will be held on topic of “What is the Heritage of the First World War and the Paris Peace Conference”.

Georg von Habsburg, the grandson of Carlo IV, the last ruler of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, and the son of Otto von Habsburg, who was declared Honorable Citizen of the City of Sarajevo in 2006 for expressed friendship with the citizens of Sarajevo in the most difficult days of aggression and unselfish advocacy for truth and peace, will also attend the event.
