The Institute for Transfusion Medicine of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Red Cross of the Federation of BiH today, with the support of the Mayor of Sarajevo Benjamina Karic, organized an action of voluntary blood donation in the Sarajevo City Hall, which was attended by a large number of citizens.

“I call on our fellow citizens to give the most important thing until 5 pm today – blood to save human lives. In the City Hall, we have citizens throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina who came to Sarajevo to donate blood. I’m just looking at a girl from Orasje who came by bus this morning to donate blood. Doesn’t that show how good and great we are, “said the mayor of Sarajevo.

The action was supported by the presence of the Special Representative of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH, Johann Sattler, who emphasized that the action of donating blood continues tomorrow in other cities of BiH.

“It is extremely important that these days we show solidarity, especially in the last year when the world was hit by a pandemic. In that sense, it is important to give support and help. I thank everyone who donated blood today, ”Sattler said.

The Secretary General of the FBiH Red Cross, Namik Hodzic, reminded that the structure of the FBiH Red Cross annually organizes more than 450 actions of voluntary blood donation in the entire Federation.

On that occasion, he says, about 20,000 doses of blood were collected for citizens in BiH.

“This year’s World Blood Donor Day slogan is ‘Let’s donate blood – keep the world alive.’ This is very important because there is no life without blood. We appeal to the citizens to be blood donors today and tomorrow in order to have safe blood reserves for our health system “, added Hodzic.

The director of the Institute for Transfusion Medicine of the FBiH, Aida Dozo, said that not even the coronavirus could stop people from donating blood. “The coronavirus did not interrupt life and the need for blood products. We are grateful to our blood donors for staying up to their duties and tasks. We are proud to have preserved blood donation. You believe the need for blood lasts 365 days a year. We only celebrate this one day. However, our fellow citizens donate blood 365 days a year “, pointed out Dozo.
