In the village of Trusina near Konjic, on Thursday, the 33rd anniversary of the crime against members of the HVO and civilians of Croatian nationality, committed by members of the RBiH Army, was marked.
Darijana Filipović, representative in the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly and HDZ BiH candidate for the Croatian member of the Presidency of BiH, said that Trusina is a place of special reverence for the Croatian people in BiH and the painful truth of suffering from the past war.
“33 years ago, Croats, civilians and defenders were killed here. Their names, which are inscribed on the monument behind us and to which we came to bow, pray and light a candle, are deeply woven into our freedom and it is our permanent obligation to preserve the truth and insist on justice in BiH,” she said.
She also said that this and all other crimes must be prosecuted so that peace in BiH can be built on truth and justice.
Darko Drljo, who lost his father, brother and uncle in Trusina, said that all victims are equal, and that messages of peace should be sent from such places where war crimes took place.
“These are always difficult days and moments. The victim has a first and last name, and every criminal has a first and last name. From places like this, we should always send messages of peace and let us know that evil always does something difficult. On the other hand, we who remained alive must not allow such things to happen again in other places,” he said.
We cannot bring back the victims, he said, “but we can contribute to coexistence and to treat all victims in these areas more humanely.”
Marinko Romić, president of the Association of Volunteers and Veterans of the Homeland War of the Herceg-Bosna HVO, Konjic branch, emphasized that truth is the foundation of justice, and without justice there is no true and lasting reconciliation.
“Today we are here to remember with deep respect the innocent Croats, killed here in Trusina. The crime that the members of the RBiH Army committed here 33 years ago left a lasting and indelible mark in the collective memory of the Croatian people,” said Romić, pointing out that Trusina will forever remain a place of remembrance, prayer and warning so that this and similar crimes would never happen again to anyone.
He also warned that those who ordered this crime were never brought to justice, saying that until this happens, truth and justice will not be served.
In the early morning hours of April 16, 1993, members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina committed a crime against 22 Croats in the village of Trusina, of which 15 were civilians and seven were captured members of the HVO.
