Gross Electricity Production increased in BiH

Gross electricity production in Bosnia and Herzegovina was 1003 GWh in May 2017, and it decreased by 20.0% compared to May 2016. In total gross electricity production hydro power plants participated with the share of 26.7% and thermal power plants with 73.3%.

In March this year, the government of FBiH adopted the Decision by which they determined the total required amount of compensation for encouraging the production of renewable energy sources and efficient cogeneration in 2017 worth 15,247,387 BAM.

The price of electricity in the Republika Srpska, one of the entities in BiH, is lower by about 23% starting from April this year, as the calculation of electricity by the summer tariffs begins.

This is a summer accounting for electricity, which will last until 30th September, is announced from the Elektrokrajina Banjaluka company.

If Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) was to allow a liberalization of the electricity market, the price of electricity could be decreased, according to the Secretariat of the Energy Union in Vienna. According to their opinion, the free creation of prices in the market has shown itself to be better than bureaucratic management of prices.

“Even though many factors influence the price of electricity, a liberalization of the BiH market and establishing a connection with regional markets could bring about a decrease in the prices compared to the current ones, as previous examples have shown,” they emphasize. They also emphasized that it’s the responsibility of BiH to comply with the Third Energy Package and allow the large-scale sale of energy, as well as the small-scale sale, and to allow it to occur in a free market.
