Group of Miners in Zenica started Hunger Strike

A group of miners from the brown coal mine in Zenica has gone on a hunger strike, Elvedin Avdić, president of the Workers’ Union of RMU Zenica, confirmed for BHRT. They decided on this move, as they point out, after no one from the management addressed them even after the three days they spent in the Miners’ House protesting over the delay in salary and hot meals.

As the union points out, by the end of the day they expect a large number of chamber members to join them in the hunger strike, and for tomorrow they are announcing protests in which they will be supported by miners from other mines of the Elektroprivreda BiH concern.

The miners of the Zenica Brown Coal Mine have not yet received their February salary, so they suspended production in both mine facilities on Friday. They gave the administration until 15:00 to fulfill their demands.

Namely, the City Administration of the City of Zenica, at the end of last week, blocked the account due to the debt owed to the City, which is related to late interest for the already paid principal of the debt for the municipal-city land.

As a result, the miners have not yet received their salaries for February, and compensation for a hot meal for January, although it is the practice to do so by the 15th of the month.

Due to the overall situation, the miners have announced peaceful protests for tomorrow.

“One group will be in front of the mine, one group will go to the City Administration. Support and colleagues from the other six mines will come, one bus each. That’s how I got the information and we won’t give up until it’s resolved. We’ll be there until it’s resolved solve,” Avdic said last week.

He invited the City Administration and Elektroprivreda to, as he stated, say whether they need Zenica miners.
