Several foreign nationals were rescued on Saturday on inaccessible terrain near Salakovac, north of Mostar, after they got lost without water and basic equipment while hiking, and thanks to the quick and coordinated intervention of the Mountain Rescue Service, the Emergency Service and the police, serious consequences for their health were prevented.

During the regular field training of the Mountain Rescue Service (GSS) of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the rescuers received an urgent call from the Emergency Medical Service in which several foreign nationals were reported missing in the area of Salakovac, north of Mostar.

According to the first information, it was about people who got lost in hard-to-reach and arid terrain, without sufficient water and basic equipment, the GSS Station Mostar announced.

The Mountain Rescue Service immediately stopped educational activities and mobilized a team for emergency interventions, and a search was organized in a short period of time and carried out in coordination with the Emergency Medical Service and members of the Mostar Police Department.

The foreign nationals were found in an extremely exhausted state, with signs of severe dehydration and physical collapse caused by exposure to high temperatures and lack of water. Some of them were disoriented and unable to move.

They were provided with the necessary first aid on site, including rehydration and stabilization of their condition, after which they were evacuated to the nearest access point where they were taken over by a medical team.

This action once again confirms the importance of the timely and coordinated response of the rescue services, ambulance and police, which enabled the joint forces to quickly locate and rescue the missing persons.
