The judges of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague unanimously ordered Israel to take all necessary and effective measures to ensure without delay basic food supplies to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
The MSP points out that Palestinians in Gaza are facing increasingly difficult living conditions and that hunger is spreading more and more.
“The court can point out that the Palestinians in Gaza no longer only face the risk of starvation but that hunger determines their positions,” the judge said in a statement.
New regulations were demanded by the Republic of South Africa as part of its lawsuit against Israel, which it accuses of genocide in Gaza.
In January, the ICJ ordered Israel to refrain from any actions against violations of the Geneva Convention and to ensure that its soldiers “do not commit genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.”
Today’s order confirmed the January measures, but added that Israel must take steps to ensure the uninterrupted provision of essential services and humanitarian aid, including food, water and electricity, and medical supplies and medical care to Palestinians throughout Gaza, Srna news agency writes.
