Skakavac waterfall has become an increasingly popular spot for relaxation. Not only domestic visitors are interested in this natural tourist attraction, but also tourists from the region.

The Public Institution for Protected Areas of the Sarajevo Canton recorded more than 1300 visits to the Skakavac waterfall and the picnic site at this location last year.

The picnic site near the waterfall is arranged and ready to accept many visitors. The waterfall can be seen from several viewpoints and visitors can walk to the bottom of the waterfall on a forest trail that is secured with handrails.

Skakavac is located 12 kilometres north of Sarajevo, above Nahorevo. The waterfall is 98 meters high and together with the broader area it is declared a monument of nature.

At 98 metres (322 ft), it is one of the tallest waterfalls in the Balkans and traverses a vertical limestone face. The waterfall freezes in winter into a number of shapes.

Part of a stream of the same name, it flows below the peak of the 1,532-metre (5,026 ft) Bukovik into Perak Creek. Vegetation around the waterfall consists of endemic and relict plants. Nearby trails are frequented by mountain bikers and hikers.

In 2002, the waterfall and its surroundings were declared a natural monument by the Sarajevo Canton government.
