The House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina refused to support the proposal of conclusions on harmonization of the positions of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the positions of the European Union on the aggression against Ukraine.

At today’s session of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the delegates spoke about Denis Becirovic’s proposal to ask the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina to fully harmonize policies, measures and positions with official EU positions on aggression against Ukraine.

Out of 15 delegates, six voted in favor of the proposal, seven were against, while two abstained. The adoption of the proposal was supported by all delegates from the Bosniak Club and Zlatko Miletić (DF BiH) from the Croat Club. Lidija Bradar (HDZ BiH) and Bariša Čolak (HDZ BiH) abstained from the Croat club. Seven delegates voted against, all delegates from the ranks of the Serbian people and Marina Pendeš (HDZ BiH) and Dragan Čović (HDZ BiH) from the ranks of the Croatian people.

Thus, the proposal to harmonize the policy with the policy of the European Union was rejected.

The proposed conclusions included the importance of respecting the European security order, strongly condemning the aggression against Ukraine and its sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence, and calling on the Russian Federation to stop the attack, condemning Russia’s recognition of Donetsk and Luhansk.

If the House of Peoples was adopted, it would express solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, and mark as unacceptable any justification of aggression and expression of a neutral attitude towards the suffering of the Ukrainian people.

Proposed conclusions sent by Denis Bećirović
While the views of the Republika Srpska delegates (positions and opposition) are not surprising, such a vote by former defense ministers Marina Pendes and Dragan Covic is in great disagreement with their rhetoric so far.
It remains to be seen what logical stunts and rhetorical tactics Dragan Covic will use to justify such obvious opposition to conducting politics in accordance with the European Union.
