“House of Hope” in Odzak is an Example to follow

We have been getting used to living with a pandemic for more than two years. The example of Odzak “House of Hope”, which deals with education and assistance to people with disabilities, shows hope that conscientious work in a difficult situation can achieve enviable results.

Odzak Association “House of Hope” is used to working with people with disabilities. Even during the pandemic, they did not reduce the scope of activities or deteriorate in any segment, so they did not have any cases of coronavirus.

“I must say that we are satisfied with the overall development of this situation. Our fellow citizens, our government did not allow us to become invisible people in this whole pandemic, ” told Ivanka Simic, president of the House of Hope Association.

Thanks to the “Housing Units” program as well as the provision of 24-hour social protection and inclusion, they managed to achieve significant results in two years.

It is a new social model that in some way wants to provide the best possible socialization,” explained Marina Novakovic, a social pedagogue and project manager of the” Housing Unit “.

The project “Housing Units” is a novelty in our area where Odzak, along with Sarajevo, Mostar, Tuzla, and Zenica, has provided all-day care and assistance for disabled people who are left without guardians.

“My sister and I are here. We go for a walk. We play basketball. I play football, we watch movies, ” stressed Husein Ganic, a user of the Association.

“I’m here. My mother went to a nursing home, she can’t take care of me and I had to come here but everything is fine here, “said Kreso Perkovic, a user of the Association.

In today’s practice, people with disabilities when left without a guardian end up in nursing homes and care facilities, where social assistance usually ends.

“We do not want them to stagnate and regress, so we are working with them on that continuity, and that is important to us,” said Marina Novakovic, a social pedagogue and project manager of the “Housing Unit”.

This project proved to be a necessary and significant segment in the socialization of our entire society.
