[wzslider autoplay=”true”]If Sarajevo would tomorrow wake up at the sea, people like Sead Deljkić would be the first ones who would sail on their ships in the early morning.

Geography wanted the 66-year-old Deljkić to spend his life far away from the sea, in the capital of B&H. However, Sarajevo did not ended this sailor’s dream, but the contrary.

Deljkić did not find any reason not to start a project that was made in his head for several long decades, 5 years ago in his backyard in the old part of the city. Today, the proud former manufacturer of sticks for throat examinations, in his backyard is looking in, many would agree, an unusual view in the B&H geographic conditions: a new sailing ship made according to the plan of the Dutch company Van de Stadt.

“Five years ago I bought the project and walked around my backyard in the presence of my neighbors and my wife saying that I will build a ship … and here it is. I had the plan to build the ship even before the war. That’s when I started to build one, but it was destroyed. Then I gave up: the war started, I lost my job, and then the biggest problem was where to make it, “said Deljkić who get his desire back when he realized that he can turn his backyard without any problems into a shipyard.

“I accidentally met a man who told me that it is easy to transfer the ship from the backyard to the road, with the help of a crane,” said Sarajevo sailor adding that everyone thought that this was only his imagination.

He was not spending much time assuring them because he always had a love for nautical science, sea, rivers and lakes. However, this kind of love costs and in order to make the ship Sead needed money.

“I got the money by disassembling my old machines and one of my Volvo’s. For the sold waste I bought the project and material. The ship was actually made out of things that I didn’t needed anymore. I bought the material piece by piece and installed it in the ship,” said Sead, adding that the ship was made depending on his financial resources and weather conditions, since the ship was built under the open sky.

The ship, which was named after his granddaughter and is called Mia, this resident of Sarajevo made all by himself, and the things he had to buy are devices such as refrigerators, generators and instruments.

This Sunday, the boat will be in the water for the first time on the Jablanica Lake, where it will remain over fall and winter. There they will install its 7 meters long mast as well. If all goes according to the plan, next year the ship will be sailing in Neum.
