How Senior Women celebrated their Day?

12825587_1122248817826073_499192133_nMarch 8 is a special day for the majority of women throughout the world, given that it is the day when partners and children dedicate special attention to the ladies and make them happy with gifts. However, many women lose their partners in the senior age. This is the reason why the centers for healthy aging in Novo Sarajevo and Centar organized a gathering for their members on this day.

Fadila, Vahdeta and Dika are widows. Without their friends in the center, they would have no one to celebrate this day with. All three of them said that the March 8 used to be much more joyful when they were younger than it is now, because men used to dedicate more attention to women.

“I used to celebrate the Women’s Day in my collective and then I would come home and spend time with my husband. In the evening we would go out with some close friends to restaurants with live music and we would stay there until late at night. What they organized for us here is nice, because we are happy and we socialize. The center is a real refreshment,” Fadila said, member of the Center for Healthy Aging of the Centar Municipality.

Fadila said that she loves receiving flowers on this day and walk down the city. She also said that it is very important to be devoted to a woman every day, especially nowadays when women are under pressure because they are working and having lots of obligations.

Vahdeta used to go out with her husband and dance until her feet hurt.

Dika is also looking forward to flowers. Without this center, she would not know where to celebrate.

“It used to be much more beautiful before. Companies organized celebrations; they took us to trips, even to Turkey. They paid half of the costs and gifted flowers. Women are not taken care of as it used to be the case before,” Dika said.

Mayor of the Novo Sarajevo Municipality Nedžad Koldžo gave a hand-made flower to all members.
