The European Union must be open to dialogue and should provide the possibility of a European perspective to the countries of the Western Balkans, including BiH, and Hungary will do everything in its power to make this happen, said Hungarian Ambassador to BiH Krizstian Posa in Sarajevo on Tuesday evening.
Posa noted that Hungary will take over the presidency of the EU from the second half of next year, which will enable it to focus the Union even more on the Western Balkans, and therefore BiH, during that period.
In his address at the reception on the occasion of the National Holiday of Hungary – the Day of the Beginning of the Revolution and Liberation Struggle in 1956, which was also attended by the Serbian member of the BiH Presidency Željka Cvijanović, he said that for his country the Western Balkans represent the door to Europe and that peace is of strategic importance and political stability in this region.
Posa also pointed to the very active political and diplomatic relations between the two countries, which is best demonstrated by the frequent meetings of the highest statesmen of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary.
“I want to send support to the political parties in BiH for the adoption of several more laws in the next few weeks. If that happens, we would have a great chance to open the doors of the EU even more towards BiH,” Posa emphasized.
In addition to the excellent political relations, Posa emphasized that the economic relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary are getting stronger every day, given that the bilateral trade in goods is growing from year to year, stating that last year the volume of foreign trade increased by more than 27 percent compared to 2021. year.
“Thanks to the significant economic growth in the past decade, Hungarian companies have the necessary investment capacity. That’s why I am convinced that in the near future we will witness more and more Hungarian investments in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Posa.
He added that Hungary supports the defense system of BiH with 800,000 dollars.
