IDDEEA BiH Denies Allegations of Personal Data Leak from Citizen Registry System

The Agency for Identification Documents, Records and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IDDEEA BiH) firmly and with arguments rejects the untrue, disturbing and unverified claims made by, as they state, a certain Prof. Dr. Hadžib Salkić, which relate to the alleged leakage of personal data of BiH citizens from information systems under the supervision of IDDEEA.

– The aforementioned Prof. Salkić, without any expert or forensic analysis, without contacting relevant institutions, and without a single technical evidence, publicly made a series of accusations that have no basis in facts or systemic reality – the IDDEEA statement states.

This institution emphasizes that no security incident, data leak, or attempt to compromise the system under its supervision has been recorded or confirmed.

The central database of personal data of BiH citizens, managed by IDDEEA, is under constant supervision, protection and continuous technical and security upgrades in accordance with the highest international standards.

As they state, no official institution (SIPA, Personal Data Protection Agency, Prosecutor’s Office of BiH) has sent IDDEEA any warning, finding or request for investigation regarding the allegations made by the aforementioned Salkić.

– IDDEEA BiH has submitted an official request to the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) to urgently investigate the publicly stated claims of Prof. Dr. Hadžib Salkić. Because if the claims are true – immediate action must be taken. If they are false – appropriate consequences must be borne for spreading disinformation that undermines citizens’ trust in state institutions – IDDEEA said in a statement.

The claim that IDDEEA is an “accomplice” in identity crime, as they emphasize, is not just untrue – it is an attack on the legal order of the state and an attempt to discredit the institution whose task is to preserve, protect and develop the digital identity infrastructure of BiH.

IDDEEA BiH reminds the public that it regularly conducts independent security checks and audits of all its systems, in cooperation with international partners and EU institutions.

It also manages systems that have never been compromised, nor are they connected to the alleged “47,000 identities” database that Salkić refers to, and that it has never been contacted by Prof. Salkić, nor has he sought insight, support or technical cooperation with IDDEEA in relation to any alleged incident.

Therefore, they call on all media outlets, journalists and citizens to distinguish between facts and sensationalism, and between expertise and irresponsibility.

– IDDEEA BiH remains open to cooperation with all competent authorities, including prosecutors’ offices, investigative agencies and expert institutions, but at the same time warns that it will no longer tolerate public attacks based on fabrications, political ambitions, panic and personal frustrations, which threaten the stability of systems of national importance – warns IDDEEA.

The protection of the identities of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina is not a topic for manipulation, political scoring, or personal promotion – it is a matter of state security, the agency says.
