Increase in Arrivals at Sarajevo International Airport in March

Last month, Sarajevo Airport recorded 67.893 passengers going through its doors, representing an increase of 2,88%  when compared with 2018. The number of aircraft movements stood at 1.0a, an decrease of 0,09% compared to the same month of the last year. During the first quarter of this year, Sarajevo Airport handled 174.508 passengers, representing an improvement of 3,18%.

Sarajevo Airport outlined plans for 2019, which include the introduction of new routes from: Athens, Gothenburg, Riyadh and Berlin, as well as infrastructure developments (construction of new terminal building, construction of airports office building and expansion of apron and taxiways), Flying Bosnian reports.

Breaking all previous records, Sarajevo International Airport (SIA) welcomed 1,046,635 passengers in 2018, recording a 9.2 percent increase year-on-year, SIA press office stated in January.

Two records were broken in 2018 when the highest number of passengers was recorded in July and August –nearly 160,000 passengers were served each month.

The second record was recorded when in December SIA welcomed a millionth passenger, thus hitting a new annual record in its history.

Throughout the whole year, a total of 13,432 aviation operations were carried out, recording an increase of 5.0 percent year-on-year, SIA stated in a press release.

In the past year, 2,508,643 kilograms of commercial cargo was dispatched.

Opened about 50 years ago, the SIA links Sarajevo with 17 destinations. It currently hosts 15 airline companies, including Fly Dubai, Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, as well as a significant number of charter flights.
