The prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes has filed an indictment against Milenko Živanović, born in 1946 in Ratkovići, Srebrenica, on suspicion of having committed a crime against humanity, stated the BiH Prosecutor’s Office.

The indictment charges Živanović with planning and directing the activities of Drina Corps units in a widespread and systematic attack against Bosniak civilians in Srebrenica and Žepa as a general and commander of the RS Army Drina Corps in 1995 as a participant in a joint criminal enterprise.

The indictment alleges that Živanović, from March 1995 until mid-July of that year, repeatedly blocked the Srebrenica protected zone, prevented supplies, and ordered artillery attacks on civilians and targets in the Srebrenica area to create unbearable living conditions and civilians forced to leave their homes and property.

The indictment also charges him with artillery and infantry attacks on the population, which resulted in the deaths of several people, as well as attacks on the population while leaving Srebrenica and attacks on UN positions to disable them to protect civilians.

Furthermore, the indictment charges Živanović with mobilizing all available vehicles and necessary fuel with the aim of forcibly expelling civilians from the Srebrenica area, as well as transporting captured men and boys who were forcibly separated to be captured and killed.

The Accused is also charged with taking part in the capture of thousands of men and boys from the Srebrenica area, on the Bratunac-Milići road, and that the men and boys were illegally detained and transported.

The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH will prove the allegations of the indictment by calling a larger number of witnesses and presenting a larger amount of material evidence, including documentation obtained in cooperation with the Prosecutor’s Office and the IRMCT court in The Hague.
