American carriers United Airlines and Delta Airlines, along with British Airways, have temporarily suspended flights to Israel due to rising tensions in the region, Israeli state broadcaster Kan TV reported on Thursday.
Delta said its flights were suspended until Friday “due to conflicts in the region,” while United did not specify the dates.
Both airlines, which fly between New York and Tel Aviv, said they were closely monitoring the security situation to determine next steps.
Khan also reports that German carrier Lufthansa’s early morning flights from Munich to Tel Aviv on Thursday, along with Austrian Airlines’ Vienna-Tel Aviv flights, were diverted to Cyprus and Bulgaria.
In a statement, Lufthansa clarified that the diversion was a precautionary measure due to security activities and stressed that the safety of passengers and crew remains the airline’s top priority, reports Xinhua.
