At the consultative forum “Brčko Smart City” that was held yesterday, the vision of construction and development of Brčko as a “smart city” was presented. During several hours, general characteristics of the concept “Smart City” have been presented, and within them a special insight and discussion on existing capacities, possibilities, financials and vision of development of the local community were conducted.
Mayor of Brčko District BiH Anto Domić, Deputy Mayor Esed Kadrić and President of the Assembly of Brčko District Đorđa Kojić addressed the attendees on behalf of the Organization committee.
“Many financial institutions and representatives of several countries expressed interest in attending today’s gathering. They came here to see what is it that we want, which is a positive sign for our endeavors. I believe we will overcome our current political difficulties and head in the direction of development and prosperity,” Domić said.
Domić reminded that organization of such gatherings began three years ago, with the aim of Brčko becoming a modern city in the next five, ten or twenty years, thanks to the application of modern technologies.
Basic characteristics of the concept were presented by the guest from Vienna – the city that incorporated the “Smart City” concept on the highest possible level.
Financial and developmental aspects of the concept were presented by renowned expert from Zagreb, representative of T&MC Group Damir Novotny, who expressed confidence that Brčko will take advantage of its great opportunities in its future development and that in terms of development it will be a role model to similar cities of southeastern Europe in some 20 years. Furthermore, he stated that the concept “smart city” does not only mean application of modern technologies, but also investing in knowledge.
Head of the Department of Physical Planning and Property-Legal Issues in the Government of Brčko District Ismet Dedeić said that the “smart city” concept includes a series of projects, starting from solving the issue of city infrastructure – water supply, sewerage, electricity, waste disposal.
