The Matrix for Monitoring Displaced Persons within the United Nations (UN) International Organization for Migration (IOM), has published the results of a survey on the profile of migrants residing in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
This research included 319 migrants accommodated in temporary reception centers in Canton Sarajevo (CS) and Una-Sana Canton (USC).
According to the data at the time of the research (from November 18th to December 24th, 2021), the number of migrants older than 14 in the reception centers ranged from 1.680 to 2.021 on a daily basis.
The information from the report is based on a sample of 319 respondents. Based on the sample, men make up 91% and women only 9% of migrants accommodated in reception centers. Of the number of migrants, 31% come from Afghanistan and Pakistan, followed by the Islamic Republic of Iran with 8%, Bangladesh with 6%, and Morocco with 3%.
The average age of the respondents was 27, the youngest migrant was 16, and the oldest 61. Seventeen surveyed migrants were children aged 14 to 17 years.
Most of the 68% of migrants surveyed were single, 30% were married, 2% were divorced and less than 1% had a spouse who had died.
As a reason for leaving the place of residence, 37% mentionedwar as the primary reason, 33% mentioned economic reasons, 10% said that violence was a reason, and 7% left the country due to problems related to the political situation in countries of origin.
