Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian said his country is in a full-scale economic war and that the US administration is not sincere in negotiations due to pressure.
Pezeshkian was speaking at a celebration of the 46th anniversary of the revolution held in the capital Tehran.
Referring to pressure and threats from the United States (US), Pezeshkian said:
“The enemies want to create a mentality that Iran is weakened, but with the wisdom and tact of Iranian leader Ali Khamenei and the presence of the people in the square, their dreams will not come true.”
Referring to US President Donald Trump’s decision to call for negotiations with Iran after taking office while simultaneously exerting “maximum pressure” on Tehran, Pezeshkian said: “Trump is talking about his intention to negotiate with Iran and, at the same time, by signing the decree, he is revealing conspiracies in his mind.”
He said the US thought Iran would surrender, but that was very naive.
“They say they want to negotiate, but if you are sincere in your negotiations, why did you make these mistakes? They claim they want to close off all access to us, including medicine, food, water, but they don’t realize that if they could, they would have done it by now,” Pezeshkian said.
He also spoke about the country’s economic problems, stating that they are in a “full-scale economic war.”
“And we must be careful not to fall into the traps of some people who hoard, disrupt the market and damage the mentality of the people towards the revolution, the administration and the leadership. We will get out of these crises with the help of the people, with prudence, with the help of politics and with the help of Allah,” he said.
He added that Iran does not want war.
Iran marked the 46th anniversary of the 1979 revolution on Monday.
Tens of thousands of people gathered since the early hours of the morning at various locations, including Enghelab Square in the capital Tehran.
Iranians, including President Pezeshkian and other senior officials, marched along designated routes toward Azadi Square, chanting slogans against the United States and Israel.
Domestically produced missiles and satellites were displayed along the route.
An Israeli flag was laid out on the ground to be trampled on, while Iranian flags were flown in the streets along with Palestinian and Yemeni flags, as well as the flag of the Lebanese Hezbollah.
The Iranian Revolution, also known as the Islamic Revolution, refers to a series of mass protests and political reforms that led to the overthrow of the Reza Pahlavi monarchy in 1979 and the establishment of Iran as an Islamic republic.
Former Iranian Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi left Iran in mid-January 1979, and on February 1 of the same year, Imam Khomeini returned from Paris, and ten days later declared an Islamic revolution in Iran.
In Iran, the anniversary of the revolution is traditionally celebrated from February 1 to 11, and the state leadership also participates in these events.
