Raisu-l-ulama of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina Husein effendi Kavazovic and Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH, Ambassador Bruce G. Berton, today signed a Cooperation Statement.

The Islamic Community in BiH and the OSCE Mission to BiH jointly express the readiness to continue and improve cooperation in the areas of the prevention of violent extremism, the rule of law and the protection of human rights, including the promotion of the freedom of religion and beliefs.

Berton and Kavazović reminded that the OSCE Mission and the Islamic Community closely cooperate in the implementation of a wide range of program activities, but also those aimed at the prevention of violent extremism, the promotion of conditions for the exercise of the right to freedom of religion and beliefs, and the promotion of inter-religious dialogue.

“The role of religious communities is crucial in promoting positive values and tolerance in multicultural societies, especially at the local level. That is why I am pleased that with this statement we have confirmed the commitment to continue with our joint activities,” said Ambassador Berton.

Reis Kavazović said that BiH faces many problems, such as hatred towards those who are different or the other, Islamophobia, but the common values on which the Islamic Community and the OSCE insist are respect for the freedom of religion, and the dignity of every human being.

He added that the IC in BiH, through its message and teaching, strives towards instilling these values into the BiH society and its members, Federal News Agency reports.
