Israel has offered to halt attacks in the Gaza Strip for two months in exchange for the release of all prisoners held by the Palestinian movement Hamas in the enclave.
Referring to the statements of unnamed Israeli officials, the portal “Axios”, based in the USA, reports that Israel has offered a new “ceasefire” to Hamas.
It was emphasized that the Tel Aviv administration had offered to suspend attacks on Gaza for two months in exchange for Hamas’s release of all prisoners.
The same source reports that the Israeli proposal does not include a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and that it was sent to Hamas through Qatar and Egypt.
Israeli officials reportedly said they were awaiting a response from Hamas but were cautiously optimistic that progress could be made in the coming days.
It is also stated that, if an agreement is reached on the exchange of prisoners, the first phase would be the release of women, men over 60 years of age and those with critical health conditions.
Israeli officials are quoted as saying that under the proposed prisoner exchange deal, Israel and Hamas would agree in advance how many Palestinian prisoners would be released in exchange for each Israeli prisoner.
