Bejtovic Communications novovrijeme.ba (1)A promotion for the book “The Impact of IT Security on the Competitiveness of Banks” by Dr. Nedim Makarević, was held yesterday at the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Economics. The promoters of the book, Prof. Dr. Meliha Handžić, Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović and Prof. Dr. Zlatko Lagumdžija spoke about the academic importance, but also the practical application of the book in the IT sector and in the field of strategic management. One of the main conclusions of the book implies that IT security should be a part of the strategic management of banks, due to its proven impact on their competitiveness.

“Nowadays, banks have the imperative to justify the confidence of citizens, and that is why throughout the world millions are being invested to protect banks against IT threats. The topic is relevant and current, and I really hope that the banking sector will take advantage of the book for the improvement of this area”, said Dr. Makarević. He also thanked the promoters for their trust and their time.

Professor Zlatko Lagumdžija emphasized that one of the advantages of this book is that it encourages further research and in regards to this topic he had entered into a whole new world. “The book provides empirical evidence that the compliance of the IT security with business strategies and the general operations is significantly correlated. This whole area is full of misconceptions, and therefore this book is very important because it really broadens the horizons and gives new insights”, said Lagumdžija.

Bejtovic Communications novovrijeme.ba 1The host of yesterday’s promotion, Professor Tarik Zaimović of the University’s Faculty of Economics, said that Nedim Makarević managed to combine theory and practice. “More than fifteen years of experience in practice, together with an excellent research project, resulted in this excellent book, and therefore I really congratulate him”.
