Flights at Germany’s second-largest airport were canceled until noon. Heavy snow flooded the capital of Bavaria, and public transport was suspended.
Heavy snowfall hit southern Germany on Friday night and continued this morning, causing major disruptions at Munich Airport, the country’s second busiest hub. The airport announced this morning that it was suspending flights until noon.
Around 320 of the 760 flights planned for Saturday have been cancelled, the German news agency DPA reported. Airport employees tried to keep at least one runway in operation and free of snow.
Germany’s weather service DWD has forecast prolonged snow until Saturday afternoon for much of Bavaria, with as much as 30-40 centimeters of snow expected in places, “much of which should fall overnight on Saturday”.
