Italy urges UN Member States to support the draft Resolution on Srebrenica

The focus of the United Nations resolution is the commemoration of an event that deeply marked not only the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also the international community, which recognizes itself in the principles expressed in the Charter of the United Nations. Italy supports this initiative and encourages the member states of the United Nations to support the draft resolution.

This was the answer given to Fena news agency from the Italian Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina when asked to say what position Italy will take towards the resolution of the UN General Assembly on the genocide in Srebrenica, which will be voted on at the beginning of May.

“The draft resolution is inspired by the texts already approved by the Security Council and the General Assembly, as well as the judgments of the ICTY and the International Court of Justice, with the aim of contributing to education, prevention and the fight against the crime of genocide. It is no coincidence that the initiative was included under the item “culture of peace” on the agenda of the General Assembly. Almost thirty years after what happened in Srebrenica, we sincerely hope that the commemoration of this tragic event can become part of the collective consciousness in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in accordance with the values and principles that are the foundation of the European Union, which the country rightly aspires to join,” it is stated in the answer to Fena from the Italian Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
