What Izetbegovic says on the Revision of the Lawsuit against Serbia?

Izetbegović“BiH has the right to complete its processes and to seek justice in relation to neighboring countries,” said the member of the Presidency of BiH, Bakir Izetbegovic, in Travnik.

According to him, there are unnecessarily tensions when it comes to a possible revision of the proceedings before the International Court of Justice, the lawsuit of BiH against Serbia for genocide.

“It is important that we have a person with the so-called legitimation, who might submit a request for review and to represent BiH. I think we have him, and that is Sakib Softic who is accredited and who led the process at first. Some disagree with this, but the authorities of BiH will not decide on it since this is a process that should be completed before the court. I think it is unnecessary to raise tensions because it is not a new lawsuit, but the completion of the process and Softic has the right and obligation to end the process,” said Izetbegovic.

As he said, there is the question whether there are new elements that are important for this process.

“We are obliged to offer a new argument which casts a whole new view on the case within ten years. I think that Softic has the solution, that in the cumulating of new elements he can possibly go on the merits. However, there is again a decision of the Court, who will accept it or not. After all, this is something that has been done more than 20 years ago and which was done by one regime that was convicted by the Hague tribunal, as well as carriers of all that criminal enterprise,” said Izetbegovic.

The Bosniak member of the Presidency of BiH believes that the whole story about the revision process is switching to politics and puts a burden on the individual Bosniak representatives.

“Of course, I’m going to stand with my people until the end, and with the fact that it cannot be traded and compromised on such painful things like genocide. We cannot hide the bones under the carpet in order to make temporary political concessions and compromises,” said Izetbegovic.

The International Court of Justice in 2007 ruled that Serbia was not guilty of participation, complicity or helping the genocide in BiH, and the deadline for the possible review of the procedure expires in February this year.
