The Japanese ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Kazuya Ogawa is organizing a signing ceremony for the grant agreement for a project to support de-mining in BiH, which will be held tomorrow in Sarajevo.
Namely, the Government of Japan has decided to allocate 408,660 Euros (approximately 800,000 BAM) for the project of supporting demining in Petrovo, Celic and Han Pijesak.
On this occasion, the Government of Japan will sign a contract for the project with ITF – Improving Human Security, a humanitarian non-profit organization established by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia.
The project will be co-financed by the American embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina with about 24,000 Euros, and Maureen Cormack, the US Ambassador to BiH, will also attend the signing ceremony.
With the implementation of this project, a total of 337,491 square meters of mined land in Petrov, Celic and Han Pijesak will be demined and handed over to the local population for use.
The project will contribute to improving living conditions, agriculture, public safety and more in these three municipalities.
Japan, at the bilateral level, is one of the largest donors in BiH. Within various types of aid (grant assistance, loan assistance, technical cooperation, cultural grants, etc.) Japan’s aid to BiH has reached an amount of about 1 billion BAM over the past 20 years, covering vital sectors such as demining, primary health care, education, water supply, agriculture, environmental protection, infrastructure, etc.
Japan will continue to support Bosnia and Herzegovina with the aim of contributing to its socio-economic development, especially in these key areas, the Embassy of Japan said in Bosnia and Herzegovina said in a statement.
