On 21 March, at 5.30 p.m. the audience of Sarajevo will have the opportunity to see a Japanese film ‘Out of this World’ (Kono Yo no sotoe – Club Shinchugun) in Meeting Point Cinema.
The film was made in 2004 and directed by Junji Sakamoto.
The film talks about Japan during the World War II, where jazz was strictly forbidden as enemy music. Some musicians defied the ban, listening to jazz records secretly, while others quieted the taboo music in their hearts and volunteered to serve as kamikaze pilots. But with the end of the war and the arrival of Occupation forces, jazz, America’s indigenous music, returned to Japan, with vitality and force.
