The town of Ljubunci, only six kilometers from Prozor towards Uzdol, was once known for its numerous mills where grain was milled. Today, they are mostly overgrown and corroded by the ravages of time.

However, the family of Slavko and Anica Jurić wanted to revive and preserve the former tradition, so they bought and renovated an old mill, which today has not only been put to its former function, but has become an attraction and attracts many guests to this area.

The mill of the Jurić family is located in Ljubunci, on the river of the same name, in the municipality of Prozor-Rama, and is the only one in this municipality that has been restored and put into operation.

Slavko always wanted to have his own mill. After 32 years of work in Austria, he returned to his hometown and together with his wife bought land and an old mill.

SLAVKO JURIĆ, owner of the mill

We are in 2015. started this here and now we enjoy it, it’s not bad for us thank God, I earned my pension in Austria, I came here to help my wife a little, along the way I always had the desire to have my own mill. As a child, I used to catch up here in the mills and so on, and thank God I fulfilled that wish.

In the mill today, grain is milled that Jurić plants himself. They produce flour from wheat, barley, rye, buckwheat and corn, and even from rose hips. Jurić also plants their own orchards of fruit and vegetables, and they also buy some from local producers for the many products they make. Slavko jokingly says that now he is the main miller here, and that his wife Anica is the boss, but he points out that she does most of the work.

SLAVKO JURIĆ, owner of the mill

It’s a lot of work just to maintain this place, let alone the rest, we planted some grain, now we’ve planted plums, we’re making brandies, she makes jams, salads, so we’re always on the move, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., it’s not that we’re excessive, yes we work, but a little bit, but this boss is better than the one in Austria, sometimes he can say let’s go for coffee.

As part of the mill, the Jurićs also created a mini-museum of old objects and tools that were once used for work in Rama. They also have a couple of buildings for rent, because they say, people are more and more attracted to antiques and local offerings, BHRT writes.
