Do you know what Dodik’s Alliance with the West looked like?

dodik-albright-alkalajRecently, the prestigious magazine The Wall Street Journal published an article on the policy of the President of the RS, Milorad Dodik, describing him as “an ally of the United States who turned them back.”

“Twenty years after the United States established peace in BiH, the leaders who then vowed to build a democracy based on the principles of Europe are now turning their backs on the West again,” wrote the Wall Street Journal.

In the period before he turned his back on the West, Dodik was a frequent guest of Albright, former Secretary of State of the United States. He met with Richard Holbrooke, the ambassador of Western countries … In the 2007, analytical agency “Stratfor” announced that the US administration is ready to remove Dodik because he turned his back on the West.

According to the same source, in the late nineties, official Washington helped to set Dodik for the Prime Minister of the Bosnian Serbs. When his party was defeated in the elections in 2000, he turned against the idea of Bosnian unity and relations with the West. In 2006 he ran elections under the rhetoric of nationalism and has not lost the elections ever since. Foreign diplomats used to see hope in Dodik.

“He was the hope of the West,” said the High Representative of EU to BiH Valentin Inzko, who was in charge of the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement. “Dodik is now building his own empire. The West should consider to remove it,” he said then.
