Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Zeljko Komsic spoke yesterday about the current political situation with the ambassadors of the group of countries friendly to the Western Balkans.
Members of this informal group, which consists of Austria, the Czech Republic, Greece, Croatia, Italy, Slovakia, and Slovenia, asked member Komsic for his view of the situation in BiH.
The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic Jana K. Lolic Sindelkova, the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia Damijan Sedar, the Ambassador of the Republic of Austria Georg Diwald, and representatives of the embassies of Slovakia, Italy, and Greece in BiH.
“The ambassadors emphasized their full support for the institutions of BiH and condemned the attacks on the constitutional order of BiH. They expressed the expectation that the crisis would be resolved as soon as possible so that BiH could dedicate itself to reforms on its Euro-Atlantic path,” it is stated in the press release.
Komsic emphasized that this crisis was caused by a non-final verdict against one man, and that “his response to it was taking the people of the Republika Srpska (RS) entity hostage and passing laws that prevent the work of the judiciary and police agencies of BiH on the territory of the RS entity.”
“Komsic emphasized that court rulings must be respected. If someone does not like the laws on which state institutions are established, then they should be changed in the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH (PABiH), where they were adopted, in accordance with the powers granted by the Constitution of BiH, and not by unilaterally prohibiting their work on a part of the territory of BiH,” the press release adds.
The interlocutors agreed that one does not negotiate with fugitives from the law.
“It was emphasized that the Republic of Austria introduced entry bans into the country for Milorad Dodik, Radovan Viskovic, and Nenad Stevandic and that they hope other European Union (EU) member states will follow their example, in the absence of consensus on EU sanctions opposed by Hungary,” the press release concludes.
