Komsic: EU recognizes Croatia’s Blockade of BiH’s European Path

Zeljko Komsic, a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) assessed that the messages of the Head of the Delegation for Relations of the European Parliament with BiH and Kosovo, Romeo Franz, that say Croatia should not block BiH on its European path as a member of the European Union (EU), are a completely new moment in EU-BiH relations, and a new moment about Croatia’s role in that process.

“The statement of the Head of the Delegation for Relations of the European Parliament with BiH and Kosovo that Croatia should not block BiH on the road to the EU, does not only say that this is the current state, but that it is, unfortunately, a process that has been going on for a long time, which I wrote about in a non-paper that was sent to Brussels a few months ago. The good thing is that it has finally been recognized, and now, realistically, there is a better chance that the EU will draw official Zagreb’s attention to illegal activities regarding BiH, ” told Komsic.

He pointed out that he expects Brussels to strongly support those policies in BiH that want to work on the implementation of 14 priorities from the Opinion of the European Commission.

“Given the recognized fact that the policies pursued by official Zagreb (HDZ) not only do not want to, but force outdated ethnic concepts, such as the so-called legitimate representation of constituent peoples, concepts that are fully rejected by the EU and NATO bodies, and marked as a means of political destabilization of BiH and the region, ” Komsic added.

Also, Komsic believes that the political messages about the need to bring BiH closer to the civic system that come from the European Parliament, primarily from the “Green” group, are very significant.

“I could completely agree with the representatives of the ‘Green’ group who claim that BiH must change the Constitution on the basis of a civic organization, and get a new Constitution that will not be based on ethnic differences. On the other hand, I am happy that there is an interest and engagement of the ‘Green’ group, people who belong to the political left-liberal spectrum that is in favor of the idea of a civic, secular, and multiethnic state of BiH. This is necessary for both BiH and the EU, ” Komsic noted.

Komsic added that such messages from the EU are creating a completely new political reality in our country.

“These are very clear signals that show in which direction talks should be held on a limited amendment to the Constitution and the Election Law of BiH. First of all, in the direction of implementing the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, and not in the ethnic, rejected legitimate representation of the constituent peoples. This is, after all, a signal that those who advocate this old concept should not be taken seriously, except in the sense that they represent an obstacle to positive processes. An obstacle for which there is a cure and a democratic solution. The citizens of BiH already know what kind of solution I am talking about,” concluded Komsic, Klix.ba writes.
