After the EUFOR ceremony on the occasion of the arrival of new forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Zeljko Komsic, stated that he saw the arrival of new EUFOR troops as a prevention of any crisis in BiH or the region.
Komsic said the arrival of new EUFOR forces primarily gives people a sense of security.
“Bosnians and Herzegovinians and any part of BiH are offered just that, a sense of security and certainty that there will be no war and no conflict,” Komsic said.
He pointed out that it is our obligation to do everything not to repeat any conflict in this area.
“It is possible that we in BiH may have a more refined reflex to something like that, that we notice signs earlier that may indicate trouble coming, including war. Don’t get me wrong, but all this is somehow happening in BiH and the region, including what is happening these days in terms of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there were a lot of signs that something like this would happen,” Komsic said.
Further, he stressed that he perceives the arrival of EUFOR forces in BiH as prevention of such creatures, not only in BiH but also in the region.
“When it comes to an opinion of a normal and ordinary man, there are too many madmen and fools who would play with weapons again and threaten each other again and start any war activities again,” Komsic said.
He added that this is an opportunity for all of us to become smarter and not play with fire.
“Perhaps I speak very subjectively from some personal experience. I know what war is and I would not wish it on these new generations or our children who are yet to start living, it is a situation that should be avoided at all costs. Of course, it does not mean that you should allow someone to trample on your dignity. It does not mean that you will allow someone to break and trample your rights,” Komsic pointed out.
Then, Komsic added that he could feel the severity of the suffering that people are experiencing in Ukraine and that it is reminiscent of the war in BiH.
Also, he emphasized that today we are not closer to NATO and the European Union (EU) than we were a few months ago.
“The general political situation on the European continent is such that there is a need to speed up these things, but when it comes to our obligations, as a state and institutions, the state has been blocked for more than half a year. We cannot make the most elementary decisions. Last time, we tried to hold the session of the BiH Presidency. To illustrate, the weight of that session in money is 1.2 billion BAM. The way of decision-making is as it is, it is prescribed by the constitution and laws,” Komsic noted.
