The members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)met yesterday in Paris with the President of the Republic of France, Emmanuel Macron. The meeting, held at the Elysee Palace, was also attended by the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos.
The Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Zeljko Komsic, thanked President Macron for the invitation and emphasized the symbolism of the meeting in Paris, especially considering that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement in this very city.
During the meeting, discussions were held on the current political situation in BiH, its European path, regional stability, and the strengthening of bilateral relations between BiH and France.
During the meeting, Chairman Komsic emphasized the importance of clear messages from the European Union (EU) regarding the future of BiH, stating that the key question is – can BiH, with its current ethnically structured political system, become a member of the EU? If it cannot, clear messages are needed from the leading countries of the EU and from Brussels.
Chairman Komsic emphasized commitment and support for the implementation of reforms, including the appointment of a chief negotiator and the adoption of the Law on the Court and the Law on the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council, while warning that attention should be paid to the current proposals of the Council of Ministers, as they are contrary to the opinions of the Venice Commission, which is unacceptable.
President Macron reiterated his commitment to the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of BiH, as well as to the stability of the entire region.
The need to strengthen economic cooperation between BiH and France was highlighted, especially through the activities of the French Development Agency, whose framework agreement has already been approved by the Presidency of BiH. In that context, the importance of continuing cooperation in the field of energy and sustainable development was emphasized.
