On May 17, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, sent an open letter to the European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood, Oliver Varhelyi, in which he responded to media reports that Varhelyi publicly joined the “shameful propaganda of the President of Serbia” when it comes to the resolution on Srebrenica.

In his letter, Konaković told the commissioner that he expected a more responsible, serious, and humane attitude from him regarding the resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica, and that “due to the position he holds, he must know that his words are difficult and painful, especially when they are in conflict with the which are universal human values, moral norms, international law and UN conventions”.

As Minister Konaković said today in a statement to Fena, after that letter he had a difficult and long conversation with Varhelyi, and the positions of the interlocutors will be published during the day through a joint statement.

“I had excellent cooperation with Varhelyi during the European integration process, but I must mention that, when it comes to the resolution and Srebrenica in general, we have a position that is of a sensitive nature. We looked at his statement and our views from several sides and I think that during the day we will come out with a joint statement regarding our cooperation and reactions,” said Konaković.

The minister adds that there were a lot of reactions to the letter to Varhelyi on social networks, but he had no direct communication with other participants.

“I saw comments both through the media and through social networks, but I had no other contacts except with Varhelyi,” Konaković concluded.
