The newly elected Bosniak member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Denis Becirovic, gave his first interview to state television after taking office.
During that short interview, he emphasized the necessity of solving citizens’ life problems, which is why he called on political actors at all levels of government to work together on existential issues.
”We all have common problems and opponents, namely: unemployment, poverty, the mass departure of people, especially young people,” Becirovic outlined some of the problems we are facing and will probably be facing for many more years after this convocation of the Presidency.
When it comes to state policy and topics that are the direct responsibility of the institution to which he was elected, he put his focus on improving BiH’s foreign policy.
”We need to change some things in foreign policy. We need to make clear criteria and send the most capable people, with qualifications, abroad. In this sense, I intend to propose some concrete things that will make the conduct of our foreign policy more serious. First, we will very clearly establish the criteria, and then look for people who can fulfill them,” he stated.
Regarding the High Representative, he said that his role is important and unquestionable, but that he does not always make the best decisions.
”I must say, when it comes to the High Representative, we need to distinguish two things. First, the institution of the High Representative is unquestionable. It is also prescribed by Annex 10 of the Dayton Peace Agreement, and we must respect that institution. On the other hand, this does not mean that the High Representative himself always makes the best possible decisions. I clearly said on October 2nd, the night of the election, that I did not agree with either the timing or the content of the High Representative’s decisions, and I explained this in the following weeks after the election. However, we have to cooperate, we have to build a European BiH. The High Representative must know that we need to build a BiH in which European principles and European standards will apply. There are also some important issues pointed out by the High Representative, and I expect that when the Presidency of BiH starts working, among other things, this government body of the State of BiH will seriously deal with these issues and that we resolve everything that is in the interest of the citizens of BiH,”Becirovic emphasized.
He did not answer the question of journalist Ivana Crnogorac about how he plans to implement the NATO integrations he is talking about, given that the forces from the Republika Srpska (RS) will not allow it, but he said that he is clearly committed to the NATO and European Union (EU) path.
”I very clearly said during the pre-election period that we must respect the Constitution of BiH, that we must respect the adopted decisions. We have opted for full membership in the EU and NATO. We all have to be active to make it happen,” said the member of the Presidency, Denis Becirovic.
Furthermore, he also added the importance of developing relations in the region.
”I call on the responsible people in Serbia and Croatia that we stop with inciting messages, that we turn to life, and we start solving open issues because this is in the interest of the citizens,”Becirovic concluded, Klix.ba reports.
