Another trip easily accessible and definitely worth a visit are Kravice Waterfalls (around 45 mins by road from Mostar).
This beautiful natural phenomenon, created by the river Trebizat, looks different depending on what time of year you visit. As the water levels of the river change so do the unique sparkling emerald green waters of the lake. Another area under state protection, Kravice Waterfalls, although relatively unknown to tourists, does have a picnic area, a small café and some restaurants (open in peak season) and there is also an area to camp should you wish to stay overnight.
The best time to visit is in Spring when the waterfall is at its fullest and the landscape is a bright green with the famous Herzegovina figs growing in abundance here. However it is also popular in the summer months when you are able to raft here. The brave are able to swim in the cold clear waters around the falls and in the summer some of the water from the falls vaporise in the sun, creating a mist on top of the valley.
The best kept local secret is the rope from which you are able to swing and jump into the beautiful waters below.
The medieval fortress sits on an antique fort above Blagaj and was originally a palace enclosed by a wall, the remains of which are still visible today. We even made new friends on the way with a local dog who followed us on the trek both on the way up and down.
Stjepan Vukšić Kosača resided in the palace and legend says that he allegedly buried his treasure there. The town name of Blagaj (meaning treasure) originates from this legend.
