Kristo talked with Haddad and Kirchbaum about BiH’s European Path

The Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjane Krišto, spoke today in Sarajevo with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, Benjamin Haddad, and the Minister for Europe of West Germany, Gunther Kirchbaum.

The BiH Council of Ministers stated that the trilateral meeting was an opportunity to discuss current situations at the highest political level, and that the European path of BiH, the current political situation in Europe, the region, as well as issues related to the future of BiH, were some of the topics of today’s meeting.

Krišto informed the ministers about key topics from the aspect of competence of the BiH Council of Ministers and everything that has been done on the foreign and domestic level.

She emphasized the importance of the political responsibility of all political representatives of the three constituent nations, who must make progress through, as she said, conversation and compromises.

“The successes that have been achieved are a clear indication that with political will, all issues can be resolved to mutual satisfaction,” said Krišto.

The topic of the Office of the High Representative and the status of the OHR was also discussed at the meeting.

“Internal agreements provide sustainable solutions. Any intervention gives domestic officials an alibi that agreements are not reached, and such a thing degrades the sovereignty of BiH and opens up space for the status quo on key topics, which leads to the stagnation of the European perspective of the country and everything that we have to fulfill towards full membership in the EU,” it is stated in the statement of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers of BiH.

Krišto also discussed with the guests the subject of the BiH Election Law and the necessity of reform, anomalies which, according to her, have multiple negative effects.

“Attempts to impose the political representatives of one constituent nation on another is a termination of rights guaranteed by the Constitution, which damages inter-ethnic relations. The equality of constituent peoples is a fundamental constitutional principle on which the constitutional order and political system in BiH rests, which was confirmed by the Constitutional Court of BiH, as well as all relevant decisions of the European Court of Human Rights,” announced the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers of BiH.
