Kurz: Despite Referendum, BiH is strongly on the EU Path!

kurz“The referendum that was held in the RS is totally unnecessarily drawing the attention from the reform process in BiH, but, despite everything, BiH is strongly on the path towards EU membership,” said Foreign Minister of Austria, Sebastian Kurz.

Kurz expressed his concern about the referendum that was held in the RS, as well as the tensions that have emerged in the region.

“For Austria and me personally, BiH is an important partner country. On the 20th of September, we in the EU were able to forward BH application for accession to the European Commission. Now it is up to BiH to send clear signals,” said Kurz.

When asked if work on the integration into the European Union can suffer due to the referendum, and how to counter these negative moves, Kurz recalled that the Council of the EU, on the 20th of September, has agreed on the forwarding of the requests for access, and thus an important step in the continuation of the accession process, it also noted its unequivocal commitment to the EU perspective of BiH as a united and sovereign state.

“In other words, just as a united country, to which is waiting only one chair in the Brussels, BiH will make further progress in the EU accession process,” said Kurz.
