At the beginning of the month, the relevant cantonal minister, Bojan Bošnjak, signed an order to evacuate the population from the landslide-prone parts of Stari Grad. Two weeks later, the minister was under investigation and arrested. In the focus of suspicions of illegal construction on Bjelašnica. Although the case is not related to the landslide on Trebević, is Pandora’s box about the problems of illegal construction on the mountains being opened? The BHRT team was on Trebević mountain.
For more than a month, the public has been informed about the problem of possible landslides in settlements on Trebević. Everything has remained the same, only the scale of the landslide and the chances of a landslide are greater.
The landslide was much smaller a month ago, today it is huge, and the locals are still worried. More heavy rainfall is expected in the coming period, and there is no sign of a solution to this problem.
At the Curine njive site, there is a constant flow of water, and it is neither rainwater nor precipitation from the slopes of Trebević, so the assumption is that it occurs from underground catchments that are under pressure from the earth, or construction material from the embankment. Samir Isaković, a resident of the Bostarići local community, visits the affected settlements every day.
SAMIR ISAKOVIĆ, Bostarići local community
“Groundwater flows every day at this site. We all know that there has not been any weather conditions for a long time, rain, and the water is still flowing.”
The landslide on Trebević threatens more than 250 houses.
ARMIN ĐONO, President of the Local Community of Širokača
“Every citizen, every house is in danger in the time ahead of us. We can see it for ourselves, light snow has started to fall, all sorts of things can happen to houses, people’s property, human lives. Now a little more ground can be moved that can take us to the capital, to Miljacka”.
There is a lot of talk, little action, say the locals. They do not see any concrete steps from those in charge.
SAMIR ISAKOVIĆ, Local Community of Bostarići
“Literally nothing is being done on the ground, everything has come down to the political level, to shift responsibility from level to level, from entity to entity, literally nothing is being done on the ground”.
Apart from 24-hour surveillance, nothing significant is being done to remove the danger. The reasons, according to the authorities, are administrative and legal. What does that mean?
NIHAD UK, Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton
“Cantonal civil protection cannot enter the field without a call from the Federal Civil Protection, or the Civil Protection of Republika Srpska”.
Although nothing is being done, the locals still hope that the landslide will not move and that in this way they will save their lives and their property, BHRT writes.
