Law is producing Results, arrogant Drivers are being sanctioned

Deputies in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PSBiH) Saša Magazinović and Jasmin Imamović, the proposers of the law which introduced and strictly sanctioned the offense of reckless driving, visited the Police Directorate of Tuzla Canton and spoke with the director Elvir Mahmutović.

The reason for the conversation was the results of the application of the law and the daily work of the police to remove arrogant drivers from the road whose behavior directly endangers the lives of other people.

“When we proposed this law, we said that it is not the same to make a mistake on the road and knowingly behave in such a way that you can kill someone. Today, we have a law that recognizes this difference and the police have a powerful tool to react. Driving recklessly is not mischief. Anyone who drives at extreme speed, drunk or drugged, knowingly accepts the possibility of killing someone. Such drivers should be removed from the road and severely punished before a tragedy occurs,” said Imamović and Magazinović.

Data from the Tuzla Canton best show the scale of the problem. Since the end of May, when the law entered into force, the TK police have recorded 296 cases of the most dangerous forms of reckless driving. Among them are 68 drivers caught in extreme speeding, 178 with more than 1.5 per thousand of alcohol, 27 under the influence of narcotics, 13 who overtook a convoy of vehicles on a full line and 62 who refused to be tested for the presence of alcohol or narcotic drugs, which according to the new law are also offenses that are severely punished.

“We cannot know how many accidents were prevented by the police stopping someone in time, but we know that every arrogant driver removed from the road is one less danger for everyone else. This is exactly why we fought for this law,” Imamović and Magazinović pointed out.

They thanked Director Mahmutović and the police officers for the decisive application of the new legal provisions, stressing that the law gets its full value precisely from the work of the policemen on the street, announced the Club of SDPBiH deputies in the House of Representatives of the PSBiH.
