Liturgical Presentation of Archbishop Tomo Vuksic: Poverty is in Ignorance of God

A liturgical presentation of the Archbishop of Vrhbosna and Metropolitan Monsignor Tomo Vuksic was held yesterday in the Cathedral of Jesus’ Sacred Heart in Sarajevo. Retired Archbishop Vinko Puljic also addressed the audience.

Cardinal Puljic recalled the time when he became archbishop, the time of the last war in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

”I was enthroned as the Archbishop of Vrhbosna at the time of the arrival of fragile democracy. Numerous initiatives were stopped by the war, leaving material and, often, spiritual devastation. The war in Ukraine, like many others, brought me back to suffering,” he sadly expressed.

As he stated, he is dissatisfied with the policies and is grateful to the benefactors.

”Peace in which politicians continued to pursue war goals, with the inertia of international politics, did not lead to the return of people. We have too many politicians and few statesmen. I thank you for your support – spiritual, moral, and material. I thank all benefactors when I beat on their hearts and pockets so I could do something,” he remarked.

To recall, Puljic was elected Archbishop of Vrhbosna by the decision of the former Pope John Paul II. After 30 years, he was retired by Pope Francis.

Namely, the emphasis of Archbishop Vuksic’s address was on issues of ethics and humanity. He said that greater poverty is in ignorance of God and that Jesus’ mission, as he said, is to restore sight to the morally blind. He noted that there are many oppressed people in the world who suffer various forms of violence.

”The most that can be given is to give ourselves, that is a means of goodness,” Archbishop Vuksic concluded.

The liturgical presentation was attended by a large number of believers, including people from political life.
